Give it a split second longer look before you move and stay in the gun till it breaks. It's way too easy to lift the head to get a better look at the anticipated smoke ball from a sitting duck target.

It's also quite easy to ride over the target and shoot too high.

Straight aways are always harder for several reasons. You have the speed of the bird against you since an angle is going away form you slower than a straight away, thus it is harder for the shot to break a straight away. It takes bigger shot and faster loads to break straight aways verses angles. It isn't you necessarily it could easily be these facts. Use more choke as well it takes more choke to break straight aways than angle also. They are the hardest bird on the range to break even though they look the simplest.

You guys are making this game way too hard. Quit thinking about it and just shoot them like any other target.

I personally dont think there are many true straight away targets, atleast not as many as I see as straught away, I see one and after I have missed it I realize it was bending away just enough that I shot behind it and realize I had misjudged it and was not looking at the target as I should have, not making excuses for my lack of concentration, due to that easy looking floater, oh well thats the game we play.

    Break em all,

    Rick

Hap, some days it seems thats all that gets thrown for me are straights other days it's hard lefts and rights. I think I take the floaters for granted or I have to much time to think aobut the shoot rather than just see the target shoot the target and stop thinking.

I think underestimating the target has a lot to do with it too.
