It seems to me that prudence would be to store food and necessary items in case of natural disaster or the oil spigot being turned tighter for oil profits. Food would be gone in a a couple of days from store shelves if there were a short gas supply. I think one could think of all kinds of items to stock up on to ride out period of civil unrest. I have been stocking up to protect my family in times of plenty just in case.

These guys that stock thousands of .223 rounds make me think: how many bad guys do you really think you can drop before the odds stack up and you take a round? How many rounds does one need?

Kinda like taking 40 flats of shells to the shoot off with Leo, Are you really that lucky?

Not many I guess. I just remember, over the years, different members of the family saying, "If trouble comes, I'm heading for your house."

A rifle proof jacket could help you blast a few more caps.

shannon, nothing full proof as an ammo stopping vest with the availibilty of todays ammo.

As for 6000 rounds, unless you have a substantial fortress to hold off the attackers then you have to be mobile. That many rounds is alittle heavy on the back....

Why 6,000 rounds? Sammy will share his ammo with his friends and relatives. Thats why.

shannon 391, why do you think the US started using the 223, with the hoards of Chinese coming over the hill in Korea, they found out you couldn't pack enough M1 ammo. No such thing as having enough firepower. We have almost as many non producers, freeloaders, socialist in this country as they did Chinese in Korea. You want to be caught short? LOL

Can't have too many line blocks can you?

    Thousands of rounds...

    For sustained defense.
    For Hunting
For teaching previously anti-gun family members and friends how to defend themselves and their families.

A big garden doesn't do you any good if you have vagrants eating your food.

Unless you join up with a fair sized group of like minded people it will not matter how many rounds of ammo or days of food & water you have. You & the Mrs. eventually will have to sleep.

Years ago, I read somewhere that if the economy really tanked, for whatever reason, that ammunition would become the new medium of exchange. The article also observed that .22 long rifle cartridges would become the new "dollar".

In reality, if things really get that bad and I don't think that they will be, we are all toast.

Remember, if Obama is elected, all members of the House of Representatives are up for election in 2010.
