I don't mean to Hi-Jack your thread Mitchell BUT I'm also interested to know how much work it is to do it myself. I have a 5 year old CG that I bought new. The stock and forend are a mess! Sunscreen, makeup, hand oils, etc. I'd like to take the finish off my wood and refinish it myself. I'm a pretty good crafty person and have sanded and refinished my whole log home, etc. I think I could do it if I knew where to start. Any suggestions fellas?
I have refinished hundreds of stocks over the years and have used quite a few different finishes. If you post some pictures I give you my two cents worth. It's not that difficult but I have learned a couple of tricks over the years.
