Here's a great book on stock fitting. I like it because:

    1. It covers a range of fit. For example, if you can shoot with an LOP between x and y, the author tells you how to find the optimum somewhere in the middle. This range of fit checking is done with the 5 major dimensions of stock fit.

    2. The illustrations are extremely well done and clear. Lots of careful design went into the illustrations. This is huge.

    3. It's a do-it-yourself book, but will leave you with plenty of knowledge that will help if you go to a professional.

    4. He talks about what stock fitting is and what it isn't and then gives you a great chapter on POI, which is not stock fitting. That chapter alone is worth the price of the book.

I wish I had this book when I was fitting my 3200. It would have saved me a ton of time - very well written guidebook.

Yeah, you've got to be careful you don't get in over your head on gun modifications. That's where guys like Joe Bowles comes in. See his website above. Joe can put a movable comb on your gun and tweak your lop/butt pad area professionally at a great price. His turn around time is fast.

    Happy fitting.

Come back after you read it and tell us what you think - likes and dislikes. And if you actually fit a stock while reading - that would be the best.

And you will be able to bid on one at the Hall of Fame silent auction at the Grand. And Dr. Jones' book too! Don't miss this opportunity to both help a worthy cause and learn something useful!

I want to give a few more details on the core concepts of the book. These are my numbers.

    1. Choose the position of your shooting eye, horizontally and vertically.

    2. Correct and incorrect sight pictures.

    3. Off range testing - length - too long, too short and just right.

    4. Pad position in the shoulder pocket.

    5. More on eye position. (notice the emphasis on visuals)

    6. Testing at the range and poi. (more visuals)

Then there's a chapter on how to make changes to your gun so that it fits and a separate chapter on POI.
