I'm going to do an oil finish on my stock. I'm thinking of either Watco natural or tung oil. What is your experience and what is an alternative? I want maximum penetration into the wood. Use thinner or will the oil penetrate naturally? Is there a technique you use?

Sea sponges make the best applicator for the many very thin coats youll apply.
I like turpentine-the odorful variety-for thinning and penetration.
Each coat should not let any dust nibs adhere to it,thats how thin its wiped on.
Ill inspect the wood very closely after each coat dries and remove any little nibs i see with 1200grit paper, wipe it down, then reapply.
When it looks good enuf to me,Ill rub it down with rottenstone/oil mix to blend it all together, then give it 1 or 2 drop coatings rubbed well to bring up the shine.
