stock degreasing

    a couple of weeks ago there was a thread on here about a compound that someone used to get the oil out of a stock before refinishing. anyone remember that thread? i cant find it in the search.......thanks

    Brownells sells the stuff. A lot can be removed by heat and gravity. Set the stock on its end and use a heat lamp for a week or two. If you are going to refinish the stock, a 30 minute soak in acetone (just the discolored areas) can help. If you use acetone, it can be dried from the wood with a heat lamp. This can take a couple of days.
