From time to time we all come across wood blanks for shotgun stocks. What dimensions (width, thickness, length, etc.) are necessary to make sure the piece of wood is big enough for a custom made stock?

Thanks in advance for the help.

It all depends on your deminsions. If you are 6'6", you may require a longer stock and larger palm swell. Alot of factors for a custum stock.

To be safe I would look for 18X7X 2 1/2 that is what my stock maker said would be ideal for a large monte carlo. You can shave some off all of those if you know what type stock you are going to make.

If you should decide to twist the grip as many are doing now, you may have to look for a 3" thick stick.
