Was reading info on this new stimulus package and had a thought of my own. If they want to spend our tax dollars to stimulate the economy, why not just send all taxpayers 1 millon each. Makes more since to me than spending almost a trillion dollars the way they are looking at it. I know for myself I could stimulate things with the extra money. Just a thought I had. What do fellow shooters think?

And then they would tax it at a new high rate.

    M Wayne:

What you are suggesting (give a million bucks back to each of us) is one version of cutting taxes and letting individual citizens make the spending decisions. That general approach was part of the largely unsuccessfuly proposals suggested by House and Senate Republicans.

I make it a point of reading liberal syndicated columnists (for example Maureen Dowd) and listening to liberal political opinion programs (exmples: Olbermann, Mathews, and Maddow) with whom I routinely disagree. Doing so helps clarify differing points of view and is a good reality check. Moreover, it's a good exercise to listen to 'their' point of view then craft effective counter arguments supported by fact and reasonable conjecture.

For that reason, I was listening to MSNBC's Rachael Maddow late last week. It was before an agreement was reached on the Senate's version of the misnamed
'stimulous bill'. Her opinion - consistent with other liberal dems including Obambi was:

    1. Tax cuts are a terrible idea. That would put the money in the pockets of ordinary citizens to spend as they see fit. She clearly stated the opinion that ordinary citizens aren't capable of picking proper priorities on which to spend the money.

I was astonished to listen to her spout that nonsense with a straight face then assert that only the government is capable of picking proper spending priorities... Lord save us!

    2. Prior to the three misguided 'go along to get along Senate Republicans' voting to enable this pork packed outrage, Senate Republicans and conservative commentators were complaining the bill was loaded with generalized and unfocused liberal spending versus temporary targeted initiatives that would create or save jobs and result in improvements to durable infrastructure like roads, bridges, and what not. Her counter argument - parroting Obambi - was that SPENDING was the whole point. She and they make no distinction between thoughtful targeted 'get something tangible for money spent' and p!ssing away astonishing amounts of cash like a drunken sailor.

Big time spending is the entire point. However, giving a million or so back to each of us, will never fly. For starters, it isn't income redistribution. By definition, Obambi intends to reward shiftless slackers like your local chapter of Acorn with YOUR tax dollars and with debt dumped on our children's children. Stated another way, vast amounts of the trillion plus spending bill are earmarked as payoffs for past liberal voting blocks and downpayments on future liberal votes.

Rachel Maddow is an Olbermann clone who only knows how to sneer at conservatives.

The condescending attitude of all of these puke representatives is revolting.

Why would anyone think pouring a waterfall of money into the soup would provide any more nourishment?

But the big question here is :

Where did all the loudmouth pukes go? Been awful quiet around here lately.

Obama spent an hour on 13 questions, and answered them with long winded feelgood speeches that went nowhere.

    we are so screwed.

HM, I was not impressed either. Jackie B.

I fail to understand his rationale. Give the money to states to repair highways? Say it like it is, puts more illegal aliens to work. Or if they are legals, that are claiming 15 dependents at age 21 that get $8000.00 back in taxes and child care, give them even more. Give added support to the gays and lesbians as well as supporting pornography in the name of art. And the list goes on and on. I keep hearing how they want to bail out the folks that have screwed us already, again. Where does this benifit me the tax payer. It's not paying my bills or taking away any of my debt. Some on here say it's our own fault. They should learn to speak for themselves. I've lived and worked in such a fashion where I could enjoy life and get to know my grandkids. I hope to be a positive influence on them and teach them to set goals and standards.

I feel a little better now so will close. Jackie B.

I got no kids or grandkids. All you guys who voted for the Democrats might as well take yours out and shoot them. It would be less painful for them in the long run.

This whole mess is nothing more than the Left Sides wish list that is intended to finance keeping them in power for years to come.

Read that ACORN would get over $4 Billion. Imagine the voter registration they can accomplish with that budget. Then again gonna take a lot of people to register all the illegal aliens before the next election.

Anyone notice that the upcoming national Census is now under White House control?? No longer under the control of the Dept of Commerce. Can You say.... Gerrymandering??

The sad deal on all of this.....they can do whatever they wish. They have the votes and they have 90% of the media on they're side.

Wait until their attention turns to closing the "Gun Show loophole" and protecting the children from our deadly firearms. As well as protecting everyone from the hazardous deadly LEAD used in our ammunition.

Last week Obama signed the SCHIP Bill. FURTHER Taxing tobacco starting April 1st. So in a few months my cigars will now cost me a minimum of forty cents more for each of them. All with a simple signature.

    We are SO F'in screwed.

Obama said with a straight face that the wanted to make sure the executives of bailed out companies didn't charter planes when it wasn't necessary (Didn't I hear him say he wanted spending to stimulate the economy?). In the same conference he was talking about his trip to Indiana today and his trip to Florida tomorrow. Why were these trips necessary? Apparently his "oversight" doesn't apply to him or Madam Pelosi and her weekly trips to San Francisco.

About 5 minutes ago the newsman on our local NBC affiliate lamented that over 30,000 people in North Carolina alone were still waiting for their government coupon to arrive so that they can acquire their tv converter box. There is a real possibility that they will actually be without tv when the new digital signal debuts this month. I AM HORRIFIED! To think that some poor person will be without tv is just too horrible to comprehend! What a cruel world!

Seriously, is there no sanity left in the world? Is there no whining voice anywhere so feeble and weak that our government doesn't feel obligated to offer a comforting teat to suckle on? I am disgusted! It will be hard on us all, but I for one cannot wait until the bubble bursts and we are, by stark necessity, brought back to some semblance of reality.Hunker down tight and cover up, folks, the s--t is about to hit the fan!

Don't know about AMC theatres but in neighborhoods where food stamps and W.I.C. food instruments are prevalent one can purchase entertainment or ANYTHING else (smokes, alcohol, gasoline, sexual services, whatever...) with them. They can also be exchanged for cash.

Like any other black market commerce, there is a discounted exchange rate. So a food stamp with a face value of one dollar buys less than a dollar's worth of Kools or Thunderbird. The difference is the buyer's risk premium and handling fees - much like the fees applicable to credit card purchases.

This bill is nothing but pay back for all the Democrats voters. Anybody that didn't vote for Obama and the new Democratic majority, too bad. Elections have consequences. If and when the economy does turn around it will have nothing to do with this payback. Unless you are an illegal highway worker out of work don't expect any quick jobs from this Democrat Party payback. I have to hand it to Obama. He is as slick as they come. He rammed this payback down our throats with a straight face while telling us we have no choice. That part is true. We have no choice.
