870 Express guns and cheap steel based shells don't get along, especially the Winchester Universals. Options are to smooth out the chamber or shoot different shells, or both. Mark
The modern 870 Express guns are notorious for sticky poorly finished chambers. Google "870 Express failure to extract". If your handle is Perazzi MX8, I'm guessing it has been a while since you even handled a new Express 870. I see this happen all the time at the range. Mark
Your right Oregunner. My 870's were the trap models from the 70's and 80's. I stand corrected on the Express M870's they make today. That's a shame if Remington has let quality slip that badly now.
I have an 870 SP for duck shoosting. I had to polish out the chamber with some emory. It seemed like the crimped end of the spent shell would glue itself to the chamber wall. It cycles fine now.
My 1971 TB will do this if I'm using new cheap ammo such as RIO's or Federal Top Guns. Never a problem with AA's or STS's. Doesn't happen very often (maybe 1 out of 50 shots) but does affect your concentration (or at least it does mine).
