I work for a Toyota dealership, and we'd like to sponsor a calcutta. I've
got to submit a proposal to my stores GM. I'm just wondering what types of
prizes would draw more shooters. Would hundreds of dollars in Gift cards to
places like Dick's/Gander Mountain attract extra shooters?
Any other idea's that would draw a larger than normal turnout?

Calcutta shooters like money but in this time of high prices, reloading supplies might be a good idea, like shot, wads, powder, primers.

I'm not sure that I understand what your promoting with the term calcutta. Normally a calcutta auctions off participants in the event whom wish to also enter this addition option. Participant is then auctioned off to highest bidder who may be the auctioned person or another viewer/attendee. It sounds more like a sponsored merchandise purse your talking of.

Yes, it would be run like a normal calcutta. Auctioning off teams to highest bidder. However there would be added prizes to the normal purse.

In addition to nice prizes, perhaps you could have the sponsor buy all/any un-purchased teams for minimum bids.

A business sponsoring a Calcutta could result in some problems. Calcutta's are illegal gambling. A business could easily provide added money/gifts in a special purse.

Calcutta's are specifically permitted in Washington State law. The usual reference is to golf but research has shown that trap Calcutta's are legal, with a few conditions.

A sponsor who advertised the event could improve the participation. Good to try something new. It might work.

Calcuttas were declared ilegal in some states but not in others. Here in Idaho, they are ilegal ( unfortunately) Curt is talkimg about Indiana and they do allow them there

As Pheasantmaster observes, a calcutta is an added option to an event.

The Toyota dealership could provide added money to the event and perhaps even have the event named after the dealership.

The dealership could even provide hats, food or other items to the shoot. Several flats of ammo donated as prizes to different classes or yardage groups in the event would IMO be an added draw.

By the way, I love my Tundra and our daughter loves her Camry. Other relatives drive Lexus, 4Runners, Tacomas, Rav4's and Siennas.

Those are some really good ideas.

    Shells/reloading supplies,
    Gas cards,
    Gift certificates to outdoors stores.

I think that'll work. When I get the details of the when/where I will post it.

    Thanks again,

Let them give away a Toyota Vehicle like the times when they gave away Caddillacs and Pontiacs out west. Big draw in todays times.

    High Handicap wins a TOYOTA
