NY State Senator Joe Robach whose district includes much of the Rochester area has proposed dividing New York into two separate States. This was Friday's news. On Monday, I will call my State Senator and my Assemblyman. I hope this can happen, but it probably calls for a referendum and we will get shot down by all the Libs in NYC who are sucking the rest of the state dry. If you think things can't change, when Joe Robach first got into politics, he was a democrat as was his Father before him. Make those calls to your Senators and Assemblymen MONDAY. Larry Evans

    Larry,

Maybe I could have afforded to stay North in my retirement if this happens.

Naw, on second thought I like the 80 degrees they are calling for today down here...

Thanks for the heads up, AND Good Luck !!!

Mike, You can call Joe Robach's office at 585-225-3650, but you might better call your local Senator. Get you gun club to forward this message. Larry.
Bisi, The 2 Liberal SOB US Senators would hopefully stay with NY City and Long Island as that is where the population is largest. Many people who do not live anywhere near NY State, especially in the areas away from "the Big Apple" think we Up-staters are all commie libs. This is not the case. About 20 years ago at "The Grand" I shot with a guy from the midwest. His wife and my wife chatted all the time we were shooting. His wife could not believe that the whole state was not paved and we actually had trees. Larry Evans

Where would this genius Joe Robach have the proposed state line be. Living in southern New York for most of my life if I ever wanted to move back I would want to be back in southern NY. I have lived in North Country NY for 2 years right by Watertown and it seemed to me like I was already in a different country never mind a different state Aye. Where do you get sucking the rest to the state dry from I would like to know. When you have no competition anywhere close by you can gouge the population for whatever you want. Gas and food prices come to mind right away where the gas costs 10 cents more a gallon in Watertown then it did in Cicero 50 miles away. Hopefully the line will start at Sullivan County as I'm from Orange.

Widomaker, As I understand it, the 5 Boroughs of Manhattan and Long Island would be separated from us or us from them. I hope it happens. We could move the Yankees up here. Then we can also develop some new welfare programs (work or leave). Bloomberg could then be King of NYC. Larry

First of all there are no 5 boroughs of Manhattan. The boroughs are Manhattan generally referred to as NYC, then the Bronx , Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. God I hope they include Westchester Rockland and Orange with the 5 boroughs of Manhattan. And good luck getting any sports franchisees to move upstate your Buffalo Bills are looking to Jet to LA because they can't put fannies in the seats.

Widomaker, The reference to the Yankees moving to upstate was in jest. As for the Buffalo Bills, I don't care where they go as long as they go. They are NFG and have been NFG for years. Yesterdays game was more proof. I have never been a Football fan and am still upset about the 25 million we gave to the Bills to revamp the stadium so some old fart could put his name on it. Call your state representatives today. Larry

    Hey widomaker,

The Buffalo Bills have sold out almost every home game that I can remember, and they have not been competitive for the last seven years. This community has made Ralph Wilson a very wealthy man. The stadium that bears his name was paid for by tax payers dollars.

If the Bills go anywhere, LA or Toronto, it won't be because we couldn't put "Fanny's in the seats". If they do leave I say good riddance. This area has much bigger problems. If NYC did become it's own city state maybe we would get some tax relief. Unfortunately that will never happen.

    Joe in Buffalo.

Last I knew NYC contributed more in tax revenue to the State than it got back. NYC would be the big winner if it separated from the rest of the state. The tax revenue streams from Wall Street are huge. That is why the State budget is such a mess right know.

tj303- Can you show the proof of your statement that NYC contributes more than it recieves? I find it very hard to believe.

Also, can someone please explain to me why the taxes are so ridiculous in the small towns of western NY? EX: LeRoy, NY. A house for sale for 135,000.00 on under an acre, combined taxes = 5,000.00/yr. and yes, if you're in the village you pay extra for garbage, sewer, and water, which is metered.

The pop. of LeRoy is approx. 7,000 in the town and 6,000 in the village. Where does all of this money go?

You can go on-line and read about New York City's debt problem. I read it comes to $7,153 dollars for every man, woman and child. Hard to believe the rest of the state is worse than that.

    tj303,

If the city pays out more than it receives, it should be glad to let us upstaters go, and not have it`s politicians kill the movement every time it`s brought up.

Texshooter, The Indians are slowly buying it back with the millions they are earning from their casinos.. Our NY government doesn't know how to make money from NY owned casinos. It will be a hell of a war when the Chinese and the Indians fight to see who REALLY owns NY. I hope the Indians don't rely on bows and arrows. Larry

That would be a good assumption on your part as I'm from Orange County NY 50 miles north of NYC. I have however gone to quite a few Giants games as I had season tickets for 10 years sat in section 109 and also 312 and went to the 86 Superbowl in CA. The Giants BTW are sold out for the next 50 years. I have in fact been to Olean and Buffalo as I dated a girl from there and the Buffalo Bills game was BLACKED out because they were not sold out. Something I had never seen B4.
