1. We have added the ability for anyone to 'bump' threads that they have created. This is mainly useful in the classifieds area where posters constantly bump for sale threads to bring it to the top. This allows them the ability to do that without having to clutter the thread with extra 'TTT' and 'Bump' type posts. To bump it, go inside your thread and click on 'Thread Tools' at the top, then select 'bump'. You can bump only once per 24 hour period.

come on "Kraker-Jack"...they look good on YOU!

Long before Perazzi, Kriegoff & Ljutic dominated the trap community, these MADE IN AMERICA Remington Classics set the standards and many of the records that still stand today. They represent a proud heritage of American Manufacturing that has since migrated to Europe and Asia.

First introduced in the 1950's these 870 and 1100 models are still manufactured today and there is a reason why over 10,000,000 870s have been manufactured, sold and are still in demand...

These Classics are CHOKED for SMOKE...

The 870 has a 30" American Fixed Full barrel...

The 1100 has a 28" Step Rib American Fixed Full barrel...

These classics are WELL TRAINED with a proud heritage and good manners...each will come with a genuine Remington 25 STRAIGHT sew on patch that was earned prior to their retirement.

Are you sure the wood on the 870 is original? I have the same gun I bought new in 1966, and it has hand cut checkering. The pictures you have posted look like pressed checkering. Rem29, the fixed full chock in my 870 is .040 contriction. Another interesting feature is that my 870 has a .732 bore. Most back then were about .725. I don't own a 1966 1100, but I do have an 1100 tournament trap I bought new out of Remington's display at the Grand in 1979. It also has cut checkering and a .040 choke. The bore, however on the 1100 is .725. Both of these guns have what I would call beautiful D-Grade wood. Just a little bit of history that I have hung onto.

Both guns do appear to have pressed checkering. I could be wrong but I don't think that's unusual because a lot of Remington's early target shotguns - 1940s and 1950s-vintage - wore cut checkering but the company went on a cost-cutting program in the 1960s and 1970s. I've seen numerous special-edition trap 870s and 1100s from that era with pressed checkering. The American bicentennial commemorative 1100 traps of 1976 had pressed checkering, for example. But Remington returned to cut checkering on their nicer target shotguns in the 1980s, fortunately.

Interestingly, the hardcover book, Standard Catalog of Remington Firearms, doesn't list either of those versions.

I can't verify if the 870 wood is original or not, but it is every bit as nice as any 870 TB and a lot of 870 TC stocks I've seen. I just checked the bore and constriction on the 870...VERY INTERESTING...the bore measured .732 with a .40 constriction! You are correct, Jayco, most of the 870s I have checked were a .725 bore with the exception of the 870 Competition and 870 TC I owned. Based on the .732 bore and .40 constriction, this is a terrific choice for a handicap or Annie shooter!

How 'bout it, Roland!!! (2010 Michigan State Champion, Senior Division)

...from the Remington Society of America

    1966

In this year, Remington announced the sale of the one-millionth Model 870 shotgun! The year 1966 also marked Remington's 150th Anniversary in business, going back to 1816, when young Eliphalet fabricated his first gun barrel, giving birth to an industry. Besides local festivities in Ilion, Remington introduced several commemorative firearms with the 150th Anniversary seal stamped on the receiver, including the Model 870 150th Anniversary Edition Shotgun. 2,534 would be sold over the next two years.

The 870 & 1100 do not have matching serial numbers, but were manufactured in the same time era. They are offered for sale as a package or available individually.

The 1100 has an after market adjustable butt plate and a tweaked and tuned Remington gold trigger assembly that functions and cycles beautifully.

Both guns bear the anniversary seal on the left hand side of the receiver.

    Rob,

I appreciate your offer, however per our conversation neither of these Remingtons are appropriate for SKEET shooting as currently configured. The butt stock, barrel length and choke of both guns are best suited for trap. I like the 1100 for singles and doubles and the 870 for handicaps. My preference for SKEET would be an O/U with choke tubed barrels of 26" to no more than 30" in length or a semi-auto with 28" barrel with a skeet choke or tubes.

    thank you for your interest...
