Page 18 of ATA rule, under J. Special Categories.

Question. If a shooter is 65 years of age, must he shoot as a Veteran, or does
he of a option of remaining in his class?

And what are the advantages or disadvantages to shooting Vet or Senior Vet verse
remaining in ones's classification. Is it just a age and or Trophy issue?

    Thanks for Sharing,
    Gunnerx

A shooter is in a Class irrespective of whether he is a category shooter. They are not mutually exclusive.

You can shoot in category AND in your class at any shoot. Only time you have to decide on one over the other would be in a shootoff situation. I'm not going to get into those details, it has been explained in the past on this site.

Gunnerx Really Vet and Senior Vet is just one more chance to win alittle money . You do still shoot you handicap and class and can win them But you also have an opportunity to win your Special Category .

Remember you can only win one and not both it,s Class or Category .

870 and ALF-99 are giving you good info - but said a third way, the special categories are not in place of regular classes, they are EXTRA trophies or monies that are not available to those not in that special category; EXTRA ways to win something. Now, most programs will limit any shooter to a single trophy for any event and that will mean that winning a class would not permit you to take the Vet, Jr., or Lady trophy also - or you, to avoid a shootoff, may elect, if you qaulify, to take the special category trophy/cash and not try for the class if there was a tie situation......Bob Dodd
