Are any of you trapshooting.com folks getting a bunch of forwarded crap emails listing William Vosnos as the sender? Today it was "A great bunch of nifty how-to tips" like 'How to put shoes in the dryer.' Yup, I sure needed that helpful hint, as I am always confounded on how to dry out my Allen Edmond's!?

I narrowed it down to a Ron Morozx and sent him an email to stop them and to remove my email from his address book. I've sent replies to stop several times. Told him to see if his email's been hacked. The sender was listed as "William Vosnos" @ duggaboybill@comcast.net.

Maybe all of us should send HIM an email and watch if mailbox become overwhelmed...hey, that's not a bad idea.

Ron is a member here on ts.com.

    FYI

Whiz: Cut him some slack. I'm sure his e-mail was hacked. It happened to me
and a number of other people I know. I don't know how you prevent it other than
being diligent in changing your password frequently. It's embarrassing, but
my experience has been that the addresses are just used to send out junk promotional material, and your other personal files aren't compromised.

I'll cut him some slack when he responds to my many requests.

I've had it happen to me and I jumped right on it, got it fixed, and sent the guy an "Thanks" for letting me know.

It's not embarrasing as much as it kinda destroys the credibility so the receiver never wants to open your emails.

They sell software to prevent this, you know. I have spent a ton on it myself to protect myself. I guess I kinda expect others to do the same.

I know a William Vosnos, he was a customer of mine way back and at Kolar. Bill is an upstanding guy, so surely someone is using his name.

Could his email address been spoofed?

    --------------

Email spoofing is email activity in which the sender address and other parts of the email header are altered to appear as though the email originated from a different source. Because core SMTP doesn't provide any authentication, it is easy to impersonate and forge emails.[1]

Although there are legitimate uses, these techniques are also commonly used in spam and phishing emails to hide the origin of the email message.[2]

By changing[clarification needed] certain properties of the email, such as the From, Return-Path and Reply-To fields (which can be found in the message header), ill-intentioned users can make the email appear to be from someone other than the actual sender. The result is that, although the email appears to come from the address indicated in the From field (found in the email headers), it actually comes from another source.[

This has happened to some really good people on here. PBB, God rest his soul, and llano bill both had their emails hacked and created some cunfusion with people on their list.

    Whiz,

Maybe your emails are going directly to his junk mail and he's not seeing them?

Whatever is happening, and I understand about him may not be getting the messages, he needs to get involved and either change his email P/W or whatever.

Joe: I have an advanced degree in computer technology, so let's get by the scenarios. Yes, I have traced all the IP's and there nothing there that I can put a finger on, primarily because I don't have the original/unkacked IP.

Everyone who owns a computer needs full A/V, Spam, etc. protection. I guess I am not too understanding when something like this happens AND the abused (not the abuser, although season should be open on them) does not even know what is going on. This should serve notice and, hopefully, h/she can get this handled.

Someone out there should tell the guy his stuff is hacked, and many, many of us are getting crap with his email address on them.

I`m getting pretty much the same junk from "Ljutic[213]". Got them just after logging on to a Ljutic site. Never opened anything in 2 years. They all go into my Junk mail.

I was hacked by a website called True Website and True Switch, they sent messages to my entire address book several times, once they get it they have you forever. I had my ISP take care of it, she traced it to that web site and blocked it on my computer and I changed my Password.

"I'm told that happens when you visit a lot of porn sites"

This would account for that groovy 70's music that plays in the background of the spams I receive.
