    RE: Beginning Jan. 1, 2012

Can you post a source for this tax, as all I could find is proposed 1% transaction taxes, but nothing written into law...

Does the Social Security $500.00 C.O.L. adjustment apply only to New York residents?

The COLA dose not just apply to New Yorkers. The reporter who wrote the story is a poor writer. The online source is focused on a few NY counties. I also sense that some of the article might come from a press release by Sen. Schumer. Lazy reporting.

    From the article:

"Social Security recipients who will see a cost of living adjustment of $500 in their Social Security checks this year....."

You can also go to the SSA link above for their statement on the COLA.

The $500 is an estimate by someone somewhere. It is the TOTAL annual COLA a typical recipient will get. Divide $500 by 12 to get the monthly amount of th COLA.
