    So I

After a stressful two day business trip to Albuquerque I found myself with a 22 hour layover in Phoenix. I arrived about 6:00pm on Friday night, but what to do for the next 22 hours?

Getting a rental car and a hotel room seemed logical.

Luckily they've changed management teams (and repaired the damage) at the Biltmore Resort since the last time I stayed there, so I was able to get a room with out "incident", but now what?

Pizza and wings at Ray's on 34th & Union Hills for dinner? It goes without saying.

Breakfast at Chompie's in Paradise Valley Mall? It's a no brainer.

But what am I going to do for the rest of the day on Saturday? I know, I'll visit my friend Ben.

The Ben Avery Clay Target Center is Phoenix is fast becoming the premier clay target facility in the Southwest.

Friendly people, outstanding targets, and now it's even easier to get to since they widened I-17 (I guess all that money I've been paying the state of AZ via those "speed cameras" paid off).

Dan Twitchell is "the man behind the curtain" at BA, but I want to give him credit. Under Dan's direction they've made TREMENDOUS improvements, and they seem to be ongoing. Every time I'm there it just keeps getting better.

I was lucky enough to shoot a round with John Greenwell, local shotgun instructor and all around nice guy.

The weather was 70 and sunny, without a cloud in the sky. Even though I was pressed for time, John was kind enough to drive me around and even pull for me. Dan took time out of his schedule to hang out with us for a few stations.

But here's the crazy thing, even though it's mid February I have the weather report for mid March: Same as today, 70 and sunny.

Couple the beautiful weather with 2 or 3 hundred golf courses, a couple of Indian Casinos, SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL, and the three-day Ben Avery Invitational, you'd be crazy not to start planning your trip NOW.

    Here are the pertinent links:

Reading about the BAI will be fun, shooting it will be BETTER. The choice is yours.

    Green Bay Wisconsin
El Paso BBQ at Peoria and 44th or thereabouts.

"Q" bar, 2 locations, excellent food. All you can eat corned beef and cabbage on Wednesday nights....delicious.

Raoul & Teresa's out past the old Phoenix club in goodyear.

If I lived in Phoenix I would weigh 500 lbs.

Racer, There's no end to good eating, although I prefer to shop at Basha's and cook for my bride and myself. Ben Avery is a great facility, no matter what your shooting venue may be. Don't complain, you could stuck be in Logan, the pit of the USA. Happy flights, Bob

And on top of it all your subject would make a fine title for the next country western hit!!!!!!! Hell they're always dying, crying or going someplace on a train.
