Snap caps

    Snap capes are used in break open gun when you are putting them away till you go out to the range or hunting. The purpose is to take the stain off all the components but especially the springs, the firing pin springs and on some of the guns that have leaf springs. Just put them in close the gun point it in a safe direction pull the trigger and put the gun away for the next day of shooting.

    However, any break open gun, when breaking it down to case it, can have the springs relieved by taking the barrel assembly off, easing the lockup lever to the firing position, placing a coin on the firing pin hole, and pulling the trigger. O/U - do it for each pin. If the gun is to be stored assembled, the snap caps are handy. Just make sure they are snap caps and not a loaded shell......Bob Dodd
