Came across this on gunbroker. I'd call that bulge a little more than "slight", and would guess these barrels are not safe to shoot (its big enough to have sprung the mid rib and bent the top rib).

That bulge is a severe accident just waiting to happen. The barrel is scrap.

Maybe it's just the next craze in "back boring".

    You can do:

    1) Have the top barrel bored and sleeved to keep it useable. Expensive job.

    2) Barrel maker can use the monobloc to make new barrels out of it. Cost about the same as buying another good set of barrel.

    3) Plug the top barrel and use it as unsingle if it's 29.5" or longer.

Either way, the monobloc is useable.

I wouldn't shoot it for sure. The guy says he has been shooting it in this condition with no problems.

He says at LEAST it would make a good trap barrel.

I would say a Federal Gold Medal hull was left in the Bbl and only ejected the Brass, I have seen this happen.

I would say it was from a 20 ga hull being left in the barrel and a rem nitro27 loaded after it.

Ian: Send it off to Kerry Allor, "Mr. Barrel."

If it can be fixed, Kerry would be the guy to do it, and if not, he'd be honest with you in that regard.

Whiz- Barrel isn't mine, nor would I ever consider purchasing it. Just something I came across browsing gunbroker.

If the bulge were caused by an obstruction, it was pretty close to the breech end. How come the barrel did not burst?
