I've used it before to talk to a couple friends. Doesn't really do anything for me that a phone call can't do. Only good thing is its free so you can talk to people anywhere in the world for no charge. I have the lowest level of broadband you can get from Time Warner, so the video was a little laggy. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if someone really wanted to, but it doesn't really serve any purpose for me. But like I said, it's free, so give it a shot.

My wife is a linguistics major and found it difficult to find a competent tutor. Finally ended up with a tutor living in England and has great success using skype for her lessons.

My work is international - I travel constantly.

I save a small fortune in phone calls - either Skype to Skype (free) or Skype to land line (small fee for each call - NEVER at international rates - all calls are "local").

Large companies are using Skype to save millions of dollars on phone calls.

Skype is great! No fee calling! You can see who you're speaking with! It's a great business tool because you can see a persons facial expressions and body language. We also use it for video conference calls for the same reason. It's a great tool! Saves on phone charges and on Travel Expenses big time!

I also get to speak with my sisters, brother and all their kids and I can see them when I speak with them and catch up on their lives and see them grow.

I had never heard of it until recently. I have a friend who winters in Panama. He suggested I try it. We can talk face to face for free.. can you just guess what that would cost via regular phone service?
I was so impressed, I told a friend who hails from Latvia. She said folks in Europe have been using it for years.
So much for superior American know-how.

Wear something decent when you call.

And don't walk naked around your wife when she is using it on her laptop.

When my son was in Iraq, I was able to see and talk to him just about every night.

Probably wasn't too comforting for my son, but it sure was to me to be able to see him and talk to him while he was literally in a "war zone".

It works great if you have broadband. Have used it in Bora-Bora and Panama to talk to New Jersey with great results!

I have it on my computer and like it. My daughter lives about a hour an a half from us and it is great to see her face as we are talking. The only down fall is that not everybody has it.

I have it and love it. Get to talk to my son "in service and bout to go to iraq for 3rd time" n get to see my grandsn grow up on a frequent basis. Its also great when your trying to explain something to some one. sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

My brother (400 mi away) usually get to have coffee together every morning face to face. It's priceless.

I've used it calling home from Europe and China and it was GREAT.

However, my main HP laptop, for some reason, was never able to work right with it due to some sort of microphone issue. I tried everything, including monkeying around with all the sound settings on my computer and buying a new separate mic/headset. Finally I tried my wifs's cheap netbook and had it working perfectly in 10 minutes.

I have it and talk to my son in China almost every night for free. It is great. I would be lost without it. Give it a try, you will be impressed.

Skype is great for communicating with people who have broadband, no matter where they are in the world.

Thanks everyone you was right, I signed up and contacted a friend of mine and it worked pretty good. If I would have called him and talked for as long as we talked it would have cost me a small fortune with my phone. We talked for almost 2 hours for free. Rick

I talk to my daughter, my grandson and my grandaugter at the same time and they live many miles apart back east and I'm out west. Met my new great grandson the other night on skype, I love it.

I have missionary friends in Europe that Skype is an affordable way to visit. Not a perfect system, but generally works ok.
