So what is the REAL difference between the 85 TTR and the GC 7 series?

Chrome bores in the barrels. TTR has adjustable rib unsingle barrel. GC-7 has a fixed rib top single barrel.

    I'm sure I missed something.

    Don't they have a GC7 unsingle?
When all else fails I would talk to the people at SKB. You would get first hand info and not some I think so stuff on here.

Don't know about that one. You may be surprised if you actually called SKB.

Many SKB's have chrome bores and have had for many years. I have autos from the 80's and 90's that are chromed as well as an 85TSS.

I believe the GC series were developed to provide some different levels of price and aesthetics rather than the higher level of the 85 series.

One of the notable differences is the extra metal at the top/sides of the receiver where the cross bolt slides is missing on the GC. It is similar to the 700/800 series of guns that had trimmer Citori like lines. The grade 1 and 2 use a cheaper adjustable comb hardware as well.

Check the website posted above or call. They are very user friendly.

The new GC7's do NOT have chrome bores per SKB. I e-mailed them about this when I was in the market for a new gun. Upon finding out about the lack of chrome bores, I opted for another 85TSS instead of the GC7. The GC7's do have updated trigger mechanisms though. The 85TSS series can be upgraded with them.

The 85 TRR's are the same as 85TSS except the tapered rib. More marketing than anything else in my opinion.

From their 85TSS barrel specs link

The SKB 12 gauge .735 backbored barrels are produced using a hammer forging process which ensures trueness over the length of the barrel and a consistent wall diameter. Fabricated from a high strength chromium alloy steel, SKB barrels are highly polished to a near mirror surface. They are then chrome lined from the chamber to the muzzle. This protective surface reduces the corrosive effects of moisture produced by plastic shotshells and other environmental conditions. This process ensures that your SKB barrels will provide years of service.

Wonder why they gave up on that feature...I've always really considered that a great point because of the lack of the chance of chamber rust and general ease of cleaning

The 85TTR has chrome lined barrels, tapered trap rib, and new and greatly improved recoil pad.

MY 85TSS has been returned to Omaha, as the bottom trigger failed. I've asked them to upgrade for me with a better"competition trigger"..Bruce

Hey Bruce...I just got mine back from Omaha with the same issue. How old is
your 85TSS? Have you had any other problems with it? How do you like the gun?
