Just an FYI, we're having a collegiate shooting event at Powder Creek Shooting Park in Lenexa, KS this weekend.

We call it "Shootout at the Crossroads" since we're kind of at the crossroads of Interstates 29, 35, and 70.

This is our third time hosting this event. This year we have over 125 entries. Its going to be a fun time. This is a huge event for our club.

Last year we had kids from as far west as Wyoming, and as far east as Eastern Kentucky University.

This year we have entries from Kansas State University (my daughter is on the team this year!) Purdue University, Colorado State University, University of Missouri-Columbia, Texas A&M University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, Iowa State University, Lindenwood University, Fort Hays State (Kansas) University, University of Wyoming, and Missouri State University.

They'll shoot 100 trap singles, 100 trap doubles, 100 sporting clays, and 100 skeet.

It was a great event the last two years. If you're in the KC area, come out to see these young folks shoot, buy a ticket for a 28 gauge o/u we're raffling off to raise funds for the K-State team, or volunteer to help us out.

    Guys,

This is out third year of putting on this event, and it keeps getting better each time. The most fun I have at our club without shooting.

Despite brain numbing cold on Saturday morning (it was 9°F when we were setting the singles targets at 7:30 a.m.) we had a turnout of 115 shooters from Kansas State, Lindenwood, Iowa State, Purdue, Colorado State, Wyoming, Texas A&M, Missouri, Missouri-Rolla, Missouri State, Fort Hays State, and Nebraska-Omaha.

Today the weather was much better. It was 30°F this morning.

In answer to the question, yes, Lindenwood is still the powerhouse in collegiate clay shooting, and the scores below bear that out. They brought nearly 40 shooters, and every one of them is good in one event or another, and some are good in every event. But you can say that about nearly every shooter that participated this weekend.

Our sporting clays guys set up a very challenging course. One of our local master class guys walked through it before the event and estimated he would shoot a mid-80’s score as-set. An 86 won the event.

I’ve listed the winning shooters and their scores. Unfortunately, I do not have all the first names of all the shooters.

    Trap

    1. Buhler - Iowa State 97

    2. Matt Hoffman - Lindenwood 97

Tim, it was a pleasure meeting you.

The staff/volunteers are one of, if not our favorite bunch. Usually it's hit-or-miss with pullers/scorers, but Powder Creek has always been great. Thanks to Tim himself for pulling/scoring doubles trap for our squad and to our skeet scorer (Ms. Vicky?) who was great.

The Iowa State squad had a great time (but we always do) and despite my tremendously awful scores (my list of excuses is endless), I had a great time.

Lindenwood is the New York Yankees of collegiate shooting. Let's leave it that.

Thanks Sam, it was great to meet you too. And thank you so much to you and your Cyclone mates for traveling down and participating.

When you shot on the skeet field with Ms. Vickie, and her husband Don, I want you to know you were in the presence of skeet shooting greatness.

Vickie Stevens is one of the top ranked NSSA lady skeet shooters in the USA (she maintained AA or AAA ranking in all 4 gauges in 2007), and her husband Don Stevens (a.k.a "Coach") will be inducted into the National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame this October.

Great to have you, and hope to see you again next year, if not sooner!

    Steve, that's awesome.

He prevailed against many excellent competitors.

I really hope he had a good time this weekend, and comes back again next March.

We're already making plans for the weekend of 7 & 8 March 2009

I think this photo may have been from last year's event.
