What is the deal. In today's Phoenix paper it says a 12 year old was shot NEAR the Ben Avery gun club. Trevor Dawe.

    The Key word is NEAR.

If you know the area you would know that there are numerous unofficial sites that are used for plinking...Just drive the back roads some time...look for the trash locations. old vehicles, freezers, fridges, tires, plywood and so on...lots of plastic and glass bottles.

    From the Central phoenix news.
A 12-year-old boy is being treated for a gunshot wound after he was accidentally shot near the Ben Avery Shooting Range in north Phoenix Saturday morning.

Phoenix police say the boy was wounded in the arm and the torso.

A medical helicopter flew the boy to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.

No foul play is suspected. The boy is reported in serious condition

The News networks can't help but include the name of the nearest gun club for effect even though it did not happen at the club ... There are desert shooters running all over up in that area, its a wonder somthing of this nature has not happened before this ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I was at Ben Avery when it happened. The young man that was injured was NOT at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, but across the street in the desert.

I saw them fly him out. They landed the helicopter at Carefree Hwy and the entrance to the Clay Target Center, that's all.

If he had been in Ben Avery and properly supervised, this probably wouldn't have happened.

As usual the Media seizes any opportunity to make guns look bad, and gun owners look irresponsible.

OTOH they probably used the club as a point of reference. Not that it changes anyones perception of the situation.

This thread title is as wrong as the "Media Reports."
