With the price of shot I have decided to start shooting 1 oz. loads I like 700X powder real well and I am experimenting with this powder. Anybody have any good loads they want to tell me about what they like with this powder, I also want to try some Alliant (American Select) or (E3) if anybody has some good loads with this ..... How is Blake doing with his new Beretta?
I use 1oz loads with 16.5 gr E3, Gun Club hulll, Down Range XL1 wad and Rem primers.According to manual that is about 1200 fps. E3 is very clean and by using only 16.5 grains I can load more shells per pound and get a cleaner burning powder for about the same cost as other powders that take more per
    shot.
Hope to see you at KY.

Go right to 7/8 from 1 1/8. I went down to 1oz myself now I'm at 7/8oz. No difference in breaks or scores. Dave T.

One more thought. Maybe someone like Neil can confirm this but I've heard that the shot string of 7/8 is more compact due various dymanics. When I'm on it, soot ball. I've also been experimenting with 8.5 shot. Dave T.

I am headed up to my Reno home today to load up some more shells. I moved to 1 oz after reading several threads, and scores did not suffer, maybe better. I of course am not an experienced shooter.

1 oz of 8's, 17 grains of 700X, Win 209 in either STS or Nitro hull. Work great. I have a few new AA's which I load once and let fly.

Clays @ 17 or 17.4 [a faster load], Wad 1oz. Green Duster, AA primer, in a AA hull or Remington Gold or Green hull, 1 oz. of 8's. Between 1,180 to 1,200 ft./sec. Clays is very clean burning and easy to find. It will recycle an auto.

Blakester, I've been into 1 oz loads since the mid-70s and 700X was the powder of choice. Over the years and with the later Oehler chronograph, I've convinced myself that 700X is the most consistent powder there is with single digit standard deviations quite common. For a very long time I used 1 oz of 8s to keep the pellet count up, +/- 16.5 gr. of 700X, and AA wads and primers for a very satisfactory load into the mid yardage. I've been through the CB clone, Green Dusters, and DownRange wads with little to report as to which was better than the next. Cheddite primers and AAs continued to be the choice(s) and were used interchageably. I later bumped up the powder to 17 grains and stayed with the 8s which took me to the 25 and 26 yard lines. I later reduced the recipe to 7/8 oz of 9s but left the powder alone to shoot skeet, close sporting shots, and to run several 100s at the 16 yard line. I've now been shooting those two basic loads for different purposes for some 15 years and I've played with Clays, International Clays, but still would not feel hurt with only 700X.....breakemall.....Bob Dodd

My 1oz load is 16.5grs of 700X,cb2100 wad, Rem primer, ans Estate case with
1oz of Eagle 8s.I shot 300 targets this last weekend at Mt. Morris and had
scores of 100, 98, and 99. Seems to me to be a good combination.

I have tried several different powders and am currently using E3 for my 1 oz and 7/8 oz loads. 16.9 gr. behind a downrange XL-1 with 7 1/2s or 8s in a rem or win hull smokes targets when I do my part.

Have also used SOLO 1000 with great results, can't remember why I switched to E3, both work great for 1 oz. and 7/8 oz.

I've used 700x for years, most consistent powder you can get, IMO. I use 17 grains for all my loads, 1 1/8 shot, blue duster, AA, STS, Gun Clubs, Win 209 primer. 1oz. green duster, same hulls, primer, powder. 7/8oz, same hulls, primer, powder, wad. 7/8 about 1260 ft/sec, 1oz about 1205, 1 1/8 about 1170. I do have to turn my final crimp die up 1 turn using the green duster wads for 7/8 loads. Good luck, Wayne
