This afternoon I was driving home after picking up my granddaughter from daycare for her mother. As we were driving along, the news came on the radio station I was listening to and one of the subjects reported on (a national news source) was the new unemployment figures from the government. The reporter noted that we had lost another 124,000 jobs in June, but that the government was reporting a drop in unemployment to 9.5 percent nevertheless. Then, to my shock, the reporter went on to say that this drop was only due to some 630,000 persons being dropped from the unemployment figures by the government under the governments accounting procedures, which do not count people they deem no longer looking for work, and that if all these type of folk were counted, the true national unemployment figure was 16.5 percent. (of course, many of us already know how the government manipulates uemployment figures and has for years). I was so surprised by honest reporting of the actual facts that I nearly drove off the road. Imagine, an honest news report! What is the world coming to?

Jim, you must have never been on unemployment, or under a rock. No disrespect intended, but the unemployment figures never include people who have lost their benefits, there is no way to count them. This has been going on for years.

No disrepect, but if you had really read the post, you would have noted first of all, that I did acknowledge that this is way the government has reported unemployment for many years. It was not aimed in particular at the current administration. Secondly, I have been unemployed at one point in my various careers, for a rather extended period actually, so I think I understand unemployment as well as any, and better than many. Also, the government can and does count those who drop from system, since they give figures (which I listed in the post by the way), and which the government provides every month in their reports. And third, the point of the post really was not about unemployment per se, but rather is a simple jab at the news media who have spent the last two years soft pedaling any bad news concerning the current administration and acting primarily as democrat and administration poodles. Sorry you did not understand the pointed humor.

Jim, sorry, I really did read your post, but missed your statement in parentheses, I assumed it was the reporters.

Remember when Bush said that he was going to create 2,000,000 jobs?

The lib-socialists laughed at him on all of the "news" outlets and he ended up creating 6,000,000 jobs and and had unemployment down to 4.2 per cent?

This moron couldn't even dream up one of his lies that big.

Another news story I heard on the radio today... Gov. Granholm of Michigan (a dumascrap whose nose is so far up Oslappys azz all you can see is the bottom of her shoes) promotes companies coming to Michigan (the business tax is far to prohibitive) and hiring people of Michigan (where the true unemployment rate is between 20 to 25%.) Well, it seems the medians in the state highways and the grass along side state roads needed mowing, so Granholm contracted this job out.... to a company from.... (drum roll please)..INDIANA!!! (No offense to any Hoosier's it's just that Michigan has many problems of it's own.) Glad she will be gone in November.
