Looks like they are on there way to a background check for any gun purchase. That ought to really cause a log jam for agencies providing the information!

Do you think it will eventually include mental history?

The above link didn't open for me. It is too long. Here it is:

The only way it would work is with a total registration.

That's apparently the sticking point. The gun side wants no records to be kept. The gun banners say it won't accomplish their objective unless records ARE kept. It could perhaps kill the whole thing.

Let's see if they want the measure bad enough.

CSPAN will replay the committee hearing at 9:55PM CDT 3/12. "Mental Illness" is already in the federal background check currently used. "Adjudicated" mental illness and/or involuntary commitment to a mental institution can be grounds for failing a background check.

Now get this!!! If you VOLUNTARILY commit yourself to an institution, this is NOT grounds for being refused a gun. So if you are crazy and ask to be locked up we will still sell you a gun.

This is a GUN REGISTRATION BILL under the guise of universal background checks.

    Let me say that again:

    GUN REGISTRATION

If the house falls to the dems in 2014 they will flat go for confisation.Thats when I believe the shooting is going to start. And the guns being fired will not be registered, unless your from Ca.

ALBANY, N.Y. - The federal Department of Veterans Affairs says its mental health professionals won't comply with a new gun law in New York that requires them to report the names of patients they believe likely to hurt themselves or others.

The reporting provision is set to take effect Saturday.

Several veterans and their advocates say it would deter many from seeking counseling and medications to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder or other psychological issues. Veterans fear their rights would be taken away.

Under the law pushed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the information would be used to determine whether someone should give up a gun license or weapon.

VA spokesman Mark Ballesteros says federal laws protecting veterans' treatment records take precedence.

Decorum prevents me from calling Fineswine what she is, but to summarize, she runs out from under her porch and bites the mailman.
