After nine years of due dillegence and complying with Federal, State and Local requirements our state of the art shooting range is under attack by a small number of people. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.Our Supervisiors are saying they are only hearing from those who are against the Range (only 91 families out of thousands)but not for it.God knows Mississippi needs economic developement. Please go to our website www.range53.com and voice your support. At Range53 we will have 8 trap fields and will sponsor scholastic trap programs as well as many large registered trap shoots with the sponsorships from our large Casinos. The Second Ammendment gives you the right to bear arms. What good is it if you have no place to shoot those arms? Thank you in advance for your support. David A. Comstock dcomstock@range53.com

Is it the shooting or the noise from the LE flashbangs that have the neighbors annoyed?

We will use Action Target Bullet bullet traps for the rifle and pistol Ranges and a new light weight concrete for sound abatement and baffeling. Only two houses are less than 5,280 feet (1 mile). We are in the middle of 2,066 acres surround by pine trees and wetlands. We have permits from the Corp of Engineers,DEQ,EPA,DMR,BMR,Wild Life and Fisheries and the County. We did a sound test and are below the required 65db rating the county requires. Pine trees are the best buffer you can have. Here is the problem, we have met every requirement every Government agency has thrown at us and have gotten the approval from them. We have spent over $500,000 in engineering costs and advertising on this over the nine years (Katrina and BP Oil Spill slowed us down) we have been planing this. Now because two ladies have decided they don't want the range they have rallied 91 families out of about 5,000 in a three and a half mile radius and have hounded the supervisior to stop us. His responce to me was he is getting no calls to support it. That is why I need you to go to our website and support us. How many new ranges will be built in the future if you have to go through what we have? If want your children and grand children to have a place to shoot speak out. If you have no range to shoot at the next thing we will hear is why do you need to own a gun?
    Think about.

Why would any one build a club of this size and magnitude and not some how figure a way to place 1 or even 2 skeet fields on it? You can't tell me it due to the wet lands. They figured out how to put everything else under the sun on the proptery.

And people question why they built the WSRC/Sparta out in the country!!! Hmmm it's all getting clear now.

I truly hope all goes well but with the neighbors it will likely be a lifelong battle.

jkortte, your response would indicate skeet fields would solve their problem, seems to me the planners were thinking ahead to eliminate chaos. Jake

If those two ladies can get the support of 91 families of the 5000, looks to me like someone isn't contacting the remaining 4909? Maybe the old "greasy wheel" gets the attention is in play here also? Good luck with your new range!

We hope to get 9 trap fields, 2 banks and a practice field. May only get 8. Mississippi DEQ is much more difficult to deal with. They will allow no lead to fall in the wetlands. Our site has over 50 acres of wetlands and as it is now we have to mitigate 3.31 acres. The ratio is 3 to 1 so we need to buy 9.93 credits at $12,000.00 each ($119,160.00). Also to get the eight, hopefully 9 fields we are having to slightly u shape the fields. Thus overlayed fields do not work. Most importantly we would lose the 5 stand field as well. Nothing against the skeeters but we had to draw the line somewhere.

Jake:: No I didn't mean that skeet fields would solve any problem. It was only an obversation, when speending millions of dollars on a new set up like this I figured they would try to throw as many different targets as possible. Don't know how things are in the south, but seems like in the midwest the only proffit coming into a club is from clay target throwing. Wish them well. I'm on a local club board and know how much 1 or 2 home owners can cause with 300 or 400 members of a sportsman club.

Just a few people bitching can be a PIA.

I belonged to a club that was Grandfathered in, but a new housing development miles away didn't like the "pop".

They didn't get anywhere, but the club had to hire an Attorney anyway.

    Good luck on your endeavor.

    Regards....Gerald
