The governor in South Carolina signed a bill Friday that allows CWP holders to have their gun inside their vehicle while on school grounds. I had tried years ago to explain to my legislator about the hassle of being out shooting when time came for a parent, that was away from home and had their gun on them, to have to drive past the school to go and secure their weapon before entering school grounds to pick up their child. He was raising his orphaned grandson at the time, and had gone with me to the skeet range so his grandson could learn to shoot.

It must have been passed around the house before his retirement some, as this one went through fairly easily.

But does that apply just to the CCW handgun or to any gun as long as you have a CCW permit?

This doesn't seem to refer to CCW holders at all. Anyone is allowed to have a gun inside a vehicle and secured, unless they are prohibited from having a gun in their possession, such as people convicted of a felony.
The difference with CCW holders is that they are allowed to carry a handgun (not any weapon) concealed on their person, except in specific places which prohibit the carrying of weapon, such as a school, government office, bank, etc. and business establishments that post a sign prohibiting weapons.

Without a CC permit, you cannot be within 1000 ft. of a school PERIOD. Ohio changed the rules to allow CC while dropping your child off or picking them up......BUT...."BUT".....Your feet better not touch the ground and it better be your child. It's almost borderline stupid to attempt this without at least a degree in Law.

Also living close to a school and owning firearms can be touchy if you get stupid. You never hear about this, but it is there....Just driving by a school with firearms in your trunk can cause you a lot of grief.

It's about time some of these laws are going our way. Maybe not in all places but looks like we may and only may be gaining some traction. After the mid term elections all bets are off if they go dumocrat. A re-election of bammy will shut all progress down.
