This is probably nothing new to most but I thought their might be a few that have not tried it, such as I until last week.

Being that times are tough for companies right now, almost all service companies will lower their cost if you mention you are going to cancel their services. The way I worded it was something along the lines of "Things are a bit tough right now so I am afraid I will have to cancel, is their anything you can help me with". I even got the trash pick up lowered by $8.00 a month. I could tell they were all expecting it.

These are the services I got lowered monthly

    Direct TV $40.

My Frontier Land line Phones (company, I have three lines with a Fax) $38.00

    My sprint / Nextel $22.00

My propane set me up with a plan to guarantee service at a reduced rate,
ended up being 32 cents per gallon less than anyone else.

    Trash pick up $8.00

    My mothers DishNet $12.00

    My inlaws cable service $32.00

My HughesNet internet provider, I have two dishes. All they could do was lock me in at the present rate.

And obviously you can make home and auto insurance do some digging.

Even if you get one it is worth a phone call.
