In the Amarillo paper today, the APwire story was that Sanata Fe, New Mexico had the first of three gun buyback programs run. They had 191 guns turned in. The payoff was $12,500 worth of pre-paid Visa cards. Works out to $65.44 per gun. One of the guns was stolen, and they would try to find the rightful owner.

But Rick, Santa Fe is trying to do the right thing. The article makes them look like a peaceful and compassionate town.

I'll wager quite a few of those guns won't even fire. Relics, antique store doo-dads etc.

Had a friend here who gathered up a bunch of old rusted guns a few years back and took them to one of the gun turn-ins in Chicago. He walked out with several hundred dollars of pre-paid Visa cards.

And then he promptly went to his nearby gun store and bought a brand new pistol he had wanted for a while. <:)

I'm just guessing but I would be willing to bet 75% of the population of Sante Fe was born in CA.

Gun buy backs really don't do anything but make the former CAs feel good.

I like snow skiing but have you ever noticed that sno skiing areas are filled with a lot of tree huggers? Santa Fe, Taos, Veil Co, etc come to mind.
