Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned for an update folks! It looks like the preliminary assessment has been received and it is being reviewed. Will the range re-open????

Here is a quote from the website:

We have received a copy of the PA/SI report and are in the process of reviewing it. Once that is accomplished we will post the findings on our website. Thank you for your patience.

Ive never shot at the range, but ive been hoping it re-opens to shoot a bit of bunker trap. I think it is ridiculous that the USMC is making a big stink, just grant the extra 50 yards and problem solved!

It isn't the USMC that is causing the problems. I talked to a board member who told me the commandant has been extremely helpful. It's the same environmental people who oversee the base who are creating the "much ado about nothing" tempest in a teapot.

I shoot at a range on a USMC base. The base cmdr had a very, very large part in building the range. We have expanded and added a trap range. The base cmdr retired and is now our President. We allow all active duty Marines free membership. We fall under range regulation. The civ mgr in charge of ranges is also a member. Many years ago there was a skeet range here but the base cmdr removed it. The base cmdr has a very large input. FWIW.

Anybody know how Auggi Daddi is doing? He is/was a great promoter of the gun club. I have many fond memories of that gun club, including my first and last handicap champion wins. Charlie Gallagher

Here's the latest info on SDSSA.

    Wednesday February 17, 2010

The following is the SDSSA’s Executive Summary of the PA/SI report. This summary was prepared for us by Dr. Richard Peddicord. Dick Peddicord is a leading expert in Environmental Assessment and Management. You can read more about Mr. Peddicord by clicking on his website, http://www.dickpeddicord.com/.

SDSSA is taking the necessary steps to aggressively challenge the CERCLA process. We are of the opinion that the CERCLA process initiated by MCAS Miramar is not required and that a comprehensive Lead Management Plan should be able to address the environmental concerns.

In our discussions with members of Congress and the Marines, both have intimated that SDSSA had a very active letter writing campaign. Writing letters is a way we can get their attention. Writing letters work. Writing a letter to our Congressman is our Chain of Command. Please take a few minutes to write a letter and send it off. You don’t have to be a member of SDSSA to write. Anyone who has enjoyed shooting at SDSSA should write: Organizations, DU, QU, NSCA, SCTP, PVA, NSSA, ATA, other shooting ranges, and members of the NRA, anyone that wants to. SDSSA is asking for your help.

Below, you will find a list of names and addresses of people that can influence our course of action. You can help influence them. Let them know how the cease fire has impacted you and why in your opinion SDSSA should remain open to the public, national shooting programs and to active and retired military personnel. Open to anyone who enjoys shotgun shooting sports.

Thank you in advance for taking that few minutes to write. And SAN DIEGO Shotgun Sports Association thanks you for your continued support.
