I have a friend who was given a Smith mod. 28 that some fool had got hold of and tried to see what made it work. All the screws are chewed up and it has internal problems as well. Any recomendations on who to send it to for repairs? A website address would be helpful if one exists. Thank you, gyrine

If someone has put a file or stone to internals and glitched it up, it needs to go back to Smith. Some parts must be fitted and are not available to the average shop or smith.

I occasionally see this. Darned shame.

Coach, I don't think that is what happened. I think it was just carelessly taken apart and put back together incorrectly. A real idiot stunt.

Bob Dunlap in Calif. makes the CD's Brownells sells on gun repair. He is also a S&W warranty repair center.

Should find him by googling his name.

Any competent gunsmith should be able to fix it.

Send it back to S&W. They have a shop that does this kind of thing and the rates are great. I had an old M19 totally rebuilt and tuned for under $200. That included having the barrel set back and re-nickled.

Back in the late 70s I inherited my Grandfather's S&W revolver. He was Sheriff of Lee County MS when he died in the late 30s, and it was his duty gun. I sent it back to S&W to have it worked on, and they sent it back without doing any work because it was "too old". I would not expect much from S&W unless policies have changed in the last few years.

Pocatello, if you were to take a 50 model Ford to the Ford dealership to get worked on, do ya think they would fix it, or say that it was "too old"? What's the difference. I have always had great results with the S&W factory.

I can repair it at a reasonable price. Call me at 760 435-4456. I have been the Oceanside police armorer for 29 years and have over 400 hours of S&W factory training, mostly on the revolvers.
