Apparently Caribou Barbie is very expensive to dress! When do Mrs Joe Six Pack, and Mrs Joe Plumber get to shop like the hockey mom?

The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use.

Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs.

Spokeswoman Maria Comella declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, including whether it was necessary to spend that much and whether it amounted to one early investment in Palin or if shopping for the vice presidential nominee was ongoing.

“The campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent," she said.

Yes, and Obama wears blue jeans and t-shirts.

I'm guessing there's a lot of that happening in both parties, don't you think?

The entire thing is so blown out of proportion. The amount of money being spent on these campaigns, regardless of where it comes from, is obscene.

$150K on clothes and all ya'll can muster is some hate about Michelle Obama.
The RNC just wasted your money on fashion cause they certainly have ZERO substance other than scare tactics and racial overtones. GYF yerselves.

I'll be shooting on Nov 5 and Jan 21st just because I CAN!

In my opinion there should be a cap on campaign spending because the amount of money being spent is obscene and could do a lot more good than buying mud slinging media ads.

And while I'm at it I would require all campaigns have a time limit, for example no campaigning until 3 months before an election, and the only topics to be discussed would be the candidates platform and not the opponents foibles.

I know I'm in a dream world but while I'm at it how about term limits for the Senate and Congress.

I wonder where Obama is getting the 100's of millions for his election. I know, from the poor workers, the Democrats are the party of the working man. Yea, right. More like the party of billionaire Socialists and oil rich Muslims from around the world pumping money into our election to take away our freedom and turn us into a socialist state with their buddies in charge.

Would you prefer that she look like Hillary? Or the fashion clown Pelosi? After all, why hide nice legs in a pants suit.

Face it the Dem women are bow-wows and it irks them that the Republican women are great looking!

Get real, folks. Stick to the issues in which case.........

I wonder how much the Obama campaign is spending on Michelle clothes? He is not taking federal money so he does not have to disclose like McCain....

I recall Janet Reno.............another Democrat beauty queen Obama has gotten millions from Soros, Hamas, the Iranian, and others via credit card conduits.

He can well afford not to take public money, and he gets to cover his tracks.

I turned off the TV yesterday, and am not going to turn it back on till tomorrow.

    I need a break.

Still haven't heard how Barry is going to get the cash to honor all his campaign promises. Mathmatically, it doesn't work, so please explain how. Don't say "tax the rich", cause that will only work once, and it's a 4 year term.
