"Do You Hear What I Hear" (Rosie O'Donnell and Elmo): This has to be one of the most-destroyed Christmas carols ever. It's essentially a power ballad, and that's made it a favorite for over-the-top belters like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. When these singers overdramatize it to the point of shattering glass, its hard to remember how sweet it sounded when first popularized in the early 1960s by Bing Crosby and the Harry Simeone Chorale.

But those caterwauling travesties are nothing when measured against the criminal interpretation by talk show host Rosie O'Donnell on her "A Rosie Christmas" CD. Not only does she massacre the melody, she desecrates the whole thing by singing it as a duet with Elmo. Yeah, Elmo, that annoying Muppet who ought to be handed over to the Schumacher* family to be turned into a winter coat. When they implore "Pray for Peace" you hope they'll add "and quiet" to the phease. It's so shrill it makes Rosie's dust-ups with Elizabeth Hasselbeck on "The View" seem like a heavenly chorus.
