    Hello Gentleman
I am going to start a new project this winter. I am going to restock my Remington 1100 trap gun in Maple. What I am concerned about is when I go to fit it and I will be using blacking agent to fit it. How will this effect the stock when it gets on to the rest of the stock? I have never worked with maple before any help is appreciated.
    Pete

The exterior of the stock will be shaped and dressed down after you've done the fitting (heading up). If you mess up, you're going to file and scrape and sand it off later anyway. That said, neatness always counts. You can wrap the stock in paper or cloth until such time as you are ready to address the fun part of the project.
