The professional race baiters ( i.e. Sharpton and Jackson) will treat him like Thomas, Rice, Sowell, Williams et al. They will call him "Uncle Tom" , "house negro" and other hateful names. It is their industry, and they depend on it for their livlihood. I wish they would abandon their stale rhetoric, but sadly, they will not.

For what I know about him, I approve. I'm not black, but I have all the respect for him. I also thought Ken Blackwell, from Ohio, would have also been a good pick. I do hope the Republicans go back to being conservatives or there will be a rise of a third party. Darrell

I got to meet Michael Steele a little over four years ago in DC. I have been a fan and supporter of his ever since.

I wouldn't be too eager to jump on the Michael Steele bandwagon. It's almost certain that he supports reinstatement of the Assault Weapons Ban. Read the link above to see what he said about that subject.

Since this is a gun/shooting website, we should know more about his stance on guns and gun control issues. Right now, he seems to be of the opinion that guns are for hunting and target shooting......... providing the guns meet certain "needs based" criteria, i.e. "you don't need an assault weapon to hunt deer or shoot trap".

I think I'll wait awhile til I find out more about his stance on guns and other issues before starting to celebrate. I know that I've seen him on TV talk shows several times and he's not the most articulate or most persuasive talker I've heard. In fact, my opinion is that he seems almost too polite and too laid back for the job he now has.

You might want to read Steele's views on Affirmative Action also. Click on the link above to read what he says about that.

I don't see that his views are much different from Obama's on these issues. Why are we celebrating? Were there no conservatives available for this position?

Hope he does well. Unfortunatly, the left will spin it to try and show "desperation" by the Republican party. They will aslso try and discredit him(just as they did Thomas, Rice and other conservative black members of the opposite party). Sharpton, Jackson and the rest of their ilk can only survive politically by convencing Black Americans that they are "VICTIMS". Any real progress at equality will be discredited and denied by the liberal socialist.

This will be more of the same RINO group that lost the 2008 elections. He is catering to blacks and liberals. If he wanted to do that, why didn't he just join the Dems? We don't need anymore Powells or McCains. I have no interest in getting along with anyone who tries to out-Dem the Dems.

Just great. ANOTHER anti-gun RINO. The GOP is making some stupid decisions that WILL cost them a lot of votes down the road. Many of us are TOTALLY FED UP WITH ANTI-GUN RINOs, yet the GOP keeps embracing them.

Checked on some of his record. Looks like he leans left of center. Another STUPID move by the GOP. Doesn't look like they'll ever get it! They lost because they abandoned their conservative base and now they try to go more LIBERAL? What the #%&# were they thinking!!??!!!

I for one am backing the Libertarian movement. Throwing my vote away you say? Well what has been offered for choices since Ronald Reagan has been an absolute disgusting farce. This country is "gone" anyway; thanks to the stupid Democrats and the so called Republicans. They talk about the Dems having a filibuster proof majority once they get to 60 senators. Hell, they have more than that now, when you factor in the Rinos. (Hagel, Snow, Collins, Spector and McCain, to name a few.) I used to work in the prison system. For the most part, I see no difference between the politicians in this country and the inmates I used to deal with. Ed
