    Tightwad works well for 1 oz loads, and is fairly inexpensive. 18 to 19 grains can give you 1180 to 1250 depending on the rest of your components, it meters very consistent thru a MEC. Scott

    Promo, Red Dot, Green Dot, Clays, International. There are lots of different powders that will push 1 oz of shot through a 12 gauge. I haven't found anything that I like as well as Clay Dot. Mark

    Does American Select work for you? or Hodgdon's International Clays is a nice clean burning powder

    I guess I should have said that the reason I'm looking is I can't find any Clay Dot.

    I've been using extra lite for all my loads and am pleased with the results. Extreme light recoil.

    Amen to the above post. You have to be creative these days. International Clays and Green Dot are traditionally 1.1/8oz powders. If I was out of my Clay Dot, I would first try to find Clays. If not, E3.

    It really depends on what speed you want your shells. For 1200 or less e3 works great above 1200 I would use green dot. I have used all three and clay dot is my favorite but beggars can't be choosers.

    Given that Clay Dot was developed by Alliant to recreate the performance of Hodgdon Clays, why don't you just use the original; Hodgdon Clays?

    Any of the faster shotgun powders will do the job just fine. These days its about what you can get more than what would would like to have. Here is my short list for 1 Oz target load powders;

    Clays
    Clay Dot
    Promo
    Red Dot
    700X
    TiteWad

    You should be able to find a jug of one of these but I doubt there will be any bargains.

    I used to shy away from changing recipes, but with this powder shortage, I'm trying new things. I've gone from 700X to Clays to Extra Lite. I will move again if I need to in order to keep loading.

    To be honest, I'm not sure I notice much of a difference with any of them. They all seem to work fine for me.

    Careful there Wass. To many, what you just said is absolute heresy!

    To others, (like me) its just a fact.
