I will be traveling through Reno, Nv on my way to a shoot in California and am planning on shooting at Sage Hills for a couple of days. I would like your advise on where to stay. I have a hard time imagining carrying gun cases through a casino on my way to my room. Looking for something not too expensive. What do you folks do when staying in Reno?
    Thanks,
    John

There's a Courtyard by Marriot that is closer than any of the big places, just an exit or two up the hwy.

I like the Peppermill. It's big and has some really nice rooms, just a few blocks north of the Atlantis.

Stayed at Harrahs 2 weekends ago, downtown is dead or slowly dying. The Silver Legacy filed for Chap 11 the following monday. The Nugget is along Hwy 80 near the new Scheels and that big shopping center and restaurants. That would give you something to do in the evenings. Scheel's is pretty impressive and big.

You could always go down the road a bit to shoot at Cap City and take a look thru all the guns Forbes has for sale upstairs. Might break up your stay from shooting at Sage Hill every day.

Boom Town has very good rates, it's further out but neat place and right next to Cabelas.

Staying at a casino hotel with a target gun isn't a problem. When you first arrive and BEFORE you go wandering around, tell a bell hop or desk clerk that you have a target gun and request a security officer.

At some places the security person will politely escort you to the security office. At Harrah's in Reno they gave me directions to the office and just sent me off in the right direction.

Security will check in the gun and ammunition if any, and hand you a receipt. When you're ready to go out to Sage Hills, take the receipt back to the security office and get your gun.

FWIW, a cab ride from downtown Reno to Sage Hills is pretty pricey. You'll probably want a rental car. You may also want to call the club for directions. At least one of the navigation websites (I don't remember which - mapquest, Yahoo maps, etc.) is bogus.

We are talking about Nevada - you can keep your hardware with you in the room if you want. Its a very gun friendly state (especially up north). Get a luggage cart and put your cased guns on it along with what ever else you want and wheel it right in. No one will bat an eye but at the same time there will be plenty of eyes on you, not much happens in the casinos/hotels that goes unseen.
