My buddy just bought a remington model 31 non ribbed shotgun from an old fellow who bought it new when he was a teen. He said it is in exellent condition. I tried to find them on Gunsamerica, but field grade 12 guage were not advertised. Any clue? Tripod. Thanks in advance.

    Tripod.. A plain barreled field gun - presume a 12 ga. - in excellent condition may bring around $300 - $400. I like model 31s and have 4: a TC Trap which I paid $550 (about a 90 - 95% gun); and 3 model 31"L" which are alloy receiver guns...all are plain barrel hunting guns: 12 30in full - $325; a 16 ga. 20 in full - $375; and a 26 in 20 ga. imp cyl - $275.
I like the 31L much more for hunting than the ones with steel receivers because of the lighter carrying weight for hunting. Check prices on gunbroker.com
I check prices at gun shows on 31s all the time...they are great guns and, some say, better built and smoother actions than Model 12s...but Winchester has the mystique. Hope this helps - Ed

Another friend was looking for a model 31 trigger...and found that apparently there are 2 - 3 different types. I know this isn't much help, but certain triggers apparently only fit specific models. Ed

To my knowledge there are two triggers, one long tang into the stock which is alloy and the other is steel and the better one on earlier models

There are actually three different versions of the 31 triggers and guns. The 1931 series, 1934 series and the 1941 series. The 1931 and 1934 series triggers will interchange but some internal parts are different. The 1941 series trigger is the "large trigger guard" and requires a stock with a cut out at the back to accept the longer trigger guard. The 1941 series large trigger guards came in both steel and alloy versions. Hitapair, what size trigger guard is the release trigger that you have and price?
