    Remington 58 question...I

I have an old Remington 58 Skeet gun in 20ga that I CAN NOT get the cocking handle out of. I've tried everything.....I've never had this problem before with these guns. Anyone have any experience with this problem??

pull the trigger out and see if there's a set screw going up thru the bolt. I've seen that done, I had a 12ga SC Skeet gun like that.

Nope, nothing like that on this gun. I've had this thing forever and never had a problem taking it apart until a while back...so, I just set it back in the safe. Now, I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem. I even put attached a slide hammer to the handle....didn't budge.

    Tron,

Have you used those two special Ford wrenches on that dude yet? You know, the blue wrench and the bfh! LOl.

Have you tried spraying the whole assembly up with oil? I'm guessing the ball bearing that holds the handle in place has a bit of rust on it, and isn't depressing when you attempt to pull the handle out.

Post your question on the Remington forum on shotgunworld.com. Also on the gunsmithing forum there.

I GOT IT! What I did was take a door panel tool (looks kind of like a screwdriver, but has a splayed end with a slot) and I put a rag between the tool and the receiver, then I whacked it with a hammer really hard several times (it was a real bugger) and the handle came flying out. It looks like the indent ball is deformed and will need to be replaced.

    Thanks all!
