The dot "DOES" indicate that the upgrades were done. The date of manufacture, I can't help with.

On the barrel of every Remington, usually at the left rear, is a two-letter code that represents the month and year the BARREL was manufactured. It is fairly reliable for determining a rifle's age but shotguns see a lot more barrel swaps or replacements, so the info is only trustworthy if you know the entire history of the firearm. However, 3200s see a lot fewer barrel swaps than 870s or 1100s.

Go to Remington's website and you'll find a link to determining the age of a firearm. That will lead you to the conversion chart for the letter code.

That serial number is included in the range for the first year of production, 1973. The sure way to know that the upgrades were done is to look for the two hex machine screws in the breach face just below the firing pin holes.

3200, you're right - they deleted that resource since my last visit to their site. Keep checking back as they might realize it was deleted and restore it. The chart was there for years, so it wasn't secret stuff or anything.

Yes, the alpha year codes kept rotating. Also, December is represented by "X" - there only are 11 letters in "blackpowder."

I have a hard copy of that chart and suppose I ought to have it laminated.

So XO would be December of 77. I bought mine new in 1984, guess it had been stored for a while.
