There was a recall on the earlier built ones that had the 2 pins in the rear of the receiver. If they were updated at the factory you will see a punched dot between OU and if you look at the bottom of the recoil face you will see 2 allen head cap screws.

If I remember right the recall was made for guns with serial #'s below 30,000. It was suppose to strengthen the receiver between the upper and lower tangs which also gave it better stock fit. Any guns made after number 30,000 had the revisions done in the manufacturing process.

The OU is on the bottom of the receiver in front of the trigger guard. It the first part of the serial number on the gun. On the upgraded guns you should see something like OU.XXXXXX with the X's being replaced with the actual serial number. The serial number on the guns that are not updated will be OU XXXXX. If you open the action and look below and to the right and left side of the lower firing pin you will see a socket head set screw set in flush with the surface on the updated guns.

Remington considers the OU to be part of the serial number. During the Garza lawsuit, applications for awards were denied unless the OU was entered as part of the serial number of the gun qualifying for the award.

The Garza lawsuit was a class action back in the late 80's which said that Remington shotgun barrels were made of inferior steel. It covered 1100,1187,870,3200 shotguns and they paid a prorated settlement to people who wanted to jump onto the suit.

Remington gave me two Competition trap models to shoot modifiy as I saw fit and shoot for a several years.

One reason for the recall had something to do with the forearm latch... can't remember, but was thinking either the latch came loose, or cause the wood to crack.

When I got mine back both had the dot as mentioned above and, if I remember correctly, both had the addition of two hexhead bolts installed in the receiver front.

Also, if I can remember the result of the law suit, I got a check in the mail, and a 1099 later. Can't remember how much it was, but it wasn't much. Does anyone remember the amount? Was it like $80 or so???

    It's been a long time.

$11 for a 1100 purchased in 1976, all barrels were prorated.
