Is the 1100 Sporting 20 being sold now the same gun that was known as the LT-20? Is the new one any better? Improvements over the old model? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yes, the Sporting 20 is effectively an LT-20 model. Better finish, nicer wood, extended chokes are the principal differences. Same size frame.

The Sporting 20 is primarily intended for skeet and sporting clays, but it will work for field use too, with standard shells (2-3/4"). The internals are identical to the LT-20 2-3/4" model (the LT-20 was made in a 3" magnum model at one time). There is no LT-20 anymore. Remington briefly applied the LT-20 name to the 1187 20ga youth gun.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was just a name change. "Premier" was formerly associated with 1187's with polished blue finish and wood stocks, including an 1187 Premier 20ga. Even the name "LT-20" got put on the 1187 20ga Sportsman youth gun when it first came out.

Would $500 out the door be too much for one like new condition?

That's a very reasonable price considering how much they go for new.
