Can someone tell me the difference (if any) between a 1100 action spring and
    a 1100 recoil spring.

It was suggested that I change the recoil spring... Remingtion parts list only shows a Action spring ?

You want the action spring. It is inside the buttstock in a tube.

No difference, it's the long spring in the tube at the rear of the receiver. Why are you changing it? Take it out, clean it and lube it, then put it back in. HMB

Same thing. It's the spring inside the long tube that goes into the stock.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

    I am changing it because:

    1. I am having issues with the brass cap of the shells rollong over or beveling.

    2. The gun kicks harder than any other 1100 I have ever shot.. 2 3/4 gram WAA new loads.

    3. I have tried everything else.

I would replace it they are less than $10.00.
A new one will measure 15 inches. If yours is less than 14 1/2 inches it is time to replace it.
    Just my 2 cents.

I would also check the ports in the barrel, some rocket scientist may have opened them up at some time.

Check with Jim and get one of his spring kits for your 1100. His stuff exceeds oem standards by a bunch.

My 11-87 will not close sufficently about twice in a box and when you pull the trigger nothing happens if you open the action and close it again it will fire, could that spring also be the problem.Thx BOB

    Releasebob,
I would check the barrel, there is a cutout for the bolt to lock in near the back of the barrel extension. Use a dental pick or a small screwdriver and scrape it. There may have a thin layer of carbon on it preventing the bolt from locking properly.
