Ate at Friendly's on the way home and took a couple of pictures. No airport expansion yet.

With the economy in its present state, can you see reason for the airport expansion? Just another city wishing in one hand with fingers crossed in the other. Now, let's see the governing bodies come forth with the funding for all this great expansion. Don't hold your breath!

If you close your eyes and think really hard, you can almost see the airport expansion that isn't there. Just imagine what it will look like when they maybe finally do build it. Put wishes in one hand and sh*t in the other and see which one fills up faster. I bet they could sure use that ....... how many million dollars was that again? shot in the arm to the local Dayton/Vandalia economy from the Ohio State Shoot and the Grand right about now. The good people of Marengo thank you Dayton/Vandalia!!!

As I recall, they needed the space for "security" reasons.

    The GRAND that was......

My first trip to Vandalia in 2003 I flew in on Delta arriving at 10:30pm on Friday night of prelim week. I could tell right away this was DAYTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT!! As I walked down the concourse the cleaning lady (just 1) was vaccuming behind me and turning off the lights behind both of us. (she & me) When I stepped out front of the baggage area and onto the curb they locked the doors behind me. Real bustling hub of activity up there. They don't need a parking deck or even a car rental agency for that matter. Sure hope the politicians that were in office back then(mayor, city council, county commissioners) are happy with current conditions up there. They screwed the entire state when they cancelled the Grands lease and turned the immediate area into a near ghost town. Hope the locals ran their @sses out of town.

On another note: Now posting the picture of the italian sausage sandwich stand is just downright cruel. Shame on you!! I miss him.

    Curt..
I was OK with all the "here she is today pics"...
BUT...that "Last Morning" 2005 pic kinda sent a chill through me.
Thanks( NOT being sarcastic...that's a genuine thank you)...I had managed to forget how special my many visits to Vandalia have been to me. I was always one of the "early" guys...walking the line, enjoying seeing the place "wake-up" and greet the new day, the thousands of enthusiastic shooters, shoppers, etc, etc.

    I do miss it.

Damn that food sure does look good. I bet one of those sausages and some onions on a bun with mustard was good after the morning singles just before caps. I'm a sucker for carnival food.

Sparta has a great sausage vendor too. And, yes, I've had the sausages at both places. Johnson actually traveled to Sparta for the first couple of years. There is a different group making them at Sparta now, but they are just as good.

And the homemade peach ice cream and homemade raspberry cobbler are second to none.

Can't wait. Just five more weeks.

Wiki says they built a new control tower and completed a parking garage in 2010.

Wasn't the reason ATA had to go an expansion that needed that land, subsequently cancelled?

    Dayton Boyz will tell us.

5 more weeks to Sparta. If they only had some sun shelters. But I guess I'll just set in my car with the air on high till my squads time to shoot. 1OT

After the hit piece on how much Sparta is losing, just wait until the Gov. decides it's too costly to run.

    Vandalia, may welcome everyone back.
