Purchased an after market stock/forarm and in attempting to remove the factory stock the stock bolt nut does not appear to be the one I am used to seeing (straight screwdriver slot). The gun is stamped SPORTING and is 12 ga. Did Rem ever use a different type of stock bolt nut?

Yes it may be a hex nut, 3/4 " I think.

The newer 1100/1187's have a 11/16" hex head "nut".

If "SPORTING" is stamped on the receiver it is a newer version of the 1100's.
The older models had the slot on the stock bolt nut.
