I am looking at an 1100 for my kid to use (if I can get the M12 away from him) but wonder if it will cycle with 7/8 oz loads? I use 16 1/2 red dot with AA hulls and Green dusters, Fiocchi primer in my O/U's and don't want to change my loads for him or use more shot if I dont have to.

Anyone try that type load and have success?

    thanks!

My 7/8 load recipe was 17.0 Clays, WIN 209, WAAL12 (Gray 7/8), and a Remington STS/Nitro or AA shell.

I never shot doubles with it, but it did cycle reliably a number of times in the 1100 this summer while shooting squash. (long story, but a skeet choke, an 1100, 5 shells in the gun, someone behind you with a good throwing arm, and squash and other veggies that are beginning to go bad and rot make for a fun day at the range).

I've used 17.5 grains of Promo or Red Dot, Winchester or Cheddite primer, Winchester WAA12L (gray) Wad. 7/8 ounce of 8 or 8 1/2 shot in a Winchester or Rem STS hull. It gives about 1250 fps and cycles my 1100 Classic Trap reliably, as well as an older 1100 field gun. I can't say that 16.5 grains would do any worse, but all you can do is try some and see. I would think that 16.5 grains might be a bit on the light side, but bumping it up a half grain or so might help. I did have some trouble with the Fiocchi primers and Red Dot powder in colder weather in certain loads. This was one of those loads, so I can't say that you would have any issues with them, since your load is somewhat different.

I have an older 1100 trap that I bought with very few rounds through it. I shoot 3/4 oz. loads through it with no problem at all. Mike.

I've been shooting 7/8 for about three years in my 1100's. I shoot the same load as Dave90T and it works my guns in Doubles just fine. I have an 1100 Comp which I shoot 3/4 oz./1220 speed loads with, and it cycles also. I do shoot my guns 'wet' with Slip 2000.

I'd be glad to old school. I use Remington STS hulls with 16.4 g of clays powder, Win 209 primer and federal 12SO wads. 3/4 oz of #8.5 shot. Great crimps and it really smokes targets. Mike.
