Alliant refers to 3 loads using Green Dot w/Federal Papers/F209A & 12S3 but none using any other primers. Anyone ever try using the Winchester primer instead of the Federal 209a and if so, how much powder for both 1145 & 1200? Thanks. (I've got lots of Winchester primers to use up) Bob

Checked through 4 manuals and no listing for the win primers with 12c3 wad. Only listing is with the 12C1 wad.

Federal 209A is about the hottest burning primer there is. Subbing a WW 209 will only burn slower, with less pressure. Load a few up and shoot them. Probably going to have some unburnt powder anyways with the Green Dot. It is also going to be one soft shooting load. I loaded 18.5 grs. of Red Dot, Windjammer wads, WW 209 primer, and 1 1/8 oz. of 7 1/2's and I could barely feel the gun go off. I literally had to look down the barrel to make sure it was clear. The birds broke, so I guess the lead was moving fast enough. This was at 16 yds. though.

Win 209, 22 grs. of GreenDot, 12s3 = about 1250. Good handicap load, low recoil, love it.

You could substitute a CC Mag primer

I'm loading Federal papers with 1 oz #8's, Claybuster wad, 18 gr Green dot, and an STS primer at 1045 fps. (Just sub in the Winchester primer. Pressures are pretty low in this load so its not a problem.) -Aaron Schneider
