A few weeks ago at our club a shooter was shooting his handicap and all the sudden he stopped and opened his gun and the Brass popped off the shell and left the plastic in the barrel! we couldn't get it out so he put his O/U barrels on and the same thing happened again. So he stopped again and stuck a wad down his barrel and pushed the plastic out. But he was also shooting reloads. So i was wondering if anyone has any idea what could cause this??
    Thanks

Reload the hulls one less time than those were.

I think HM was being serious. Keep track of how many time a hull is reloaded. When I reloaded, I never used a hull more than 5 times.

You failed to mention WHAT TYPE of hulls he was using. I have had numerous Gold Medal hulls separate at the brass after just one reloading, so no more GMs for me!

Jim C gave good advice, but I for one don't keep track of how many time I reload my hulls. I just go by how they appear.

I kept having that problem with the new smooth hull gold medal cases it would break off flush with the brass and get stuck about 8 inches in the barrel id spray oil in the barrel and ram a wad down the choke to get it out fixed the problem by only loading them a couple times and pitching them. The thin plastic must get pretty weak when its shot alot. Kirk

    Yes, I was serious.

Another thing you can do is clean your chamber. The pores of the steel get clogged up with particles of plastic.

Wrap some fine steel wool around a 12 guage brush, soak with Low sulphur cutting oil and turn gently with a variable drill for a couple 15 second periods.

The oil will lubricate the steel wool, and the steel wool will ensnare the plastic particles.

When done and cleaned, apply a thin coat of Break Free to the chamber.

    Works for me.

Let me re-emphasize.....the "new" Gold Medal hulls are pure SH#T, IMHO. Have had WAY TOO MANY come apart at the brass after just one reloading! Absolutely none of my shooting friends that reload use them either!

I have had only one other type of hull do this, and that was a Remington STS. No new or old style A-As, no WallyWorld Feds, no Cheddites or other "cheapy" hulls! The GMs are NOT worth the worry!

It happens with paper shells a lot. If I load them three times, ok but the 4th and it starts seperating the brass from the hull. It is easy to stick your finger in and pull out the paper hull though as they do not melt

Never had one "melt" in the chamber. Lots have stuck or had the brass pulled off.

    melted is different than seperating

If it was indeed "melted" - you might want to invite the shooter never to shoot those reloads at your club or around you again

    regards from Iowa
