I have peenty of Winchester AA hulls and plenty of Remmington STS and would like to load a 1oz load using these componets. Can anyone help? Alson need suggeston on a Wad. Thanks Jim Simpson

Check out the above web site for your exact needs. I love 700X, and use STS/Nitro hull, CB 1 oz pink wad, Win209 primer and just over 17 grains of 700X. If I do my part correctly, nothing but dust. I am changing to Downrange wads as soon as my supply of CB run out. Doubt it changes my formula much.

Not to step on your thread - but I use 700X (17.5 g) with W209 Primers, WAA12 wads and AA hulls throwing an ounce and an eight of number 8. All works well but when the hulls are ejected they are really dirty - not just the crimp ends but most of the way down the hull.

I just got back into trap league shooting after a 15 year absence - I don't remember this problem back then. Anyone else have this problem??

    Thanks

I only load 1 oz with 700X, and my STS and Nitro hulls don't come out as you describe. I can't tell you why, but they are fairly clean. I don't believe 700X is as "clean" as Clays, and I have read many great things about E3 being very clean.

What your describing sounds like Red Dot about 25 years ago...my red AA's at that time came out looking like grey AA's after a load or two of Red Dot about half way back to the base.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I have not seen 700X being dirty. I would think 1-1/8 would bring more pressure, thus cleaner than even my 1 oz.???

Good Luck..I like the powder, but if it was that dirty for me, I would change.

Around 17.0 grains of 700-X, Winchester W209 primer, STS or AA Hull, 1oz of hard shot, and the Remington TGT12 wad would do quite nicely. The WAA12SL wad would also work, but I seem to get better results with the Rem TGT12 or the Downrange clone. This load clocks around 1230 fps out of my barrel using STS hulls and a little less with the AA hulls. The WAA12SL wad is also a little slower, but not by much. I haven't noticed if these loads are dirtier than others. That means it's not any worse than other loads/powders. I shoot a gaspipe, so it would probably be obvious to me if they were. If you load it down, you might have more unburned powder to deal with.

I see the same thing happening to the old type AA hull, But when I reload Rem ST no discoloring at all, must be the plastic in the AA Butch H

That load might be OK as it is listed for the Winchester AA hull, but it is WAY over the top (pressure wise) in a Remington hull (17.5 @ 11,200 PSI). I would suggest you specify the hull you are using, or double check the data. The Winchester and Remington hulls usually list different data and are not usually interchangeable. At lower pressures/velocities/shot weights, you can sometimes get "similar" results with either.

I reloaded 700X for more years than I care to admit to. I, also, experienced the dirty hulls you are describing. I found there were a couple reasons for this happening. One was when I shot it in a barrel that had excessive clearance in the chamber of the barrel. It would allow the gasses to blow back past the plastic and get them dirty. The same was true of over bored barrels, or barrels that had the forcing cones removed and the gunsmith got a little careless with the chamber clearances. The number one reason, however, was that there was insufficient wad pressure put on the wad, and the crimp was not set deep enough to allow total combustion of the powder. 700X is a fast burning powder, but, it must be well contained by the proper depth crimp, (about the thickness of a dime)to allow the powder to completely ignite. You can prove this out by loading a few hulls with about 20lbs wad pressure and a nice deep crimp, and a few with no wad pressure, and a very shallow crimp. You will notice the difference right away..... Just my experience.. Dan Thome (Trap)

I guess I load 700X on the light side with 15.6 gr (414 bushing in a 366) with 1 oz of lead and CB110012 wads using Cheditte primers and I`m satisfied with the performance and sometimes use this at the 25yd line . I only load STS or RGC hulls .
