I built a Remington 1100 trap with used parts - a little from here and a little online. I installed a Speers release trigger - just to see if it made any real difference for me. I debuted the gun on a Thursday evening and found that I had a significant problem ejecting hulls. Twenty five of 25 jammed. I still broke 23 in that round. I replaced and polished the piston rings and cleaned up the magazine tube. On Saturday I fired 150 shells without a single jam. Scores were all in the 20s.

The release function seemed natural and I only faltered once in 150 rounds - failed to set the trigger. I must report that I experienced what I think was a flinch releasing. At least it felt that way - a lot like the feeling when I inadvertently “flinch” when pulling a trigger. That suggests one of two possibilities. What I thought was a flinch on pulling, really isn’t. Or, pulling or releasing doesn’t make any difference to my shooting. I broke 21 from 22 yards yesterday using my old BT99 with standard pull trigger (and 23 at 16 yards). I am in no way suggesting that release triggers are not useful, just that I haven’t seen a difference for me.

This has been a valuable learning experience for me. Instead of working to master a new skill set - and modify all of my guns to a new trigger type - I'll continue to work on my basic skills with the standard pull triggers. Now, would anyone like to trade a Remington 1100 trap trigger assembly for a really nice Speers release?

If you're right handed and flinched on a left angle consider it semi-normal!!

    Larry,
I sent you a PM. I have a pull trigger that was tuned by a gunsmith,
creep taken out and clean breaking at, I think, about 3 1/2 pounds.
It has the extended bolt release installed.
If we trade and you don't like it, we can swap back.

Well went to a release and still a flinch? could be not seeing the target like you should. Have you checked on eye dominance?

Since my eye surgery, I'll have an occasional "flinch" more from "where did it go?- to there it is" happens when I lose the bird out of the house, if I can maintain my track all is smooth.

Thanks for checking, MIA. dickgtax has one and we're doing a swap.

How in the heck did anything get done before we had puters?
